Summer Prints

Summer Prints I’m Loving + Classic Summer Prints and Styling Tips

Feeling stuck in a rut choosing prints during summer?  I’ve got some fresh outfit ideas that will have your summer wardrobe poppin’ with prints.  You may have seen articles listing fashion “rules” about prints that you can pair together and prints that you can’t, prints that make you look bad and prints that make you look good, or what age group can wear prints and what can’t.  Well I say throw that book out the window and have fun with it because that’s what summer fashion is about. If you love it, I say rock it girl!

With that being said, I wanted to share a few of my favorite street style summer prints and how I’m wearing them in summer 2018.  What’s your favorite summer print to rock? Leave a comment on my recent Instagram post so that we can exchange summer style ideas!

FLORALS

Summer florals add a freshness to any outfit that I just love.  When I’m choosing a summer floral print, I like to go for tropical flowers and bright colors.  I tend to stay away from dark tones and spring flowers like hydrangeas or tulips and go for flowers like hibiscus and birds of paradise in oranges and fuchsias.  If you are nervous to rock a full floral outfit, try starting with a floral print bandana or hair scarf. Those are so fun and on trend! I also love to juxtapose floral dresses with casual sneakers for a fun twist.

Soprano Floral Wrap Crop Top

Calibe Floral Print Distressed Tee  – Love the distressed detailing as a twist on a floral print. Pair with white denim jeans and woven wedges or espadrilles.

Cecilia New York Hibiscus Sandal  – These statement heels are so fun!  I would wear them with a shift dress and a simple pony for an elegant summer look.

Sonix Tropical Deco iPhone X Case

Zara Floral Print Robe Dress  – How pretty would this be as a swimsuit cover up for a solid one piece?  Or pair it with a basic tank and skinny jeans for date night.

Brixton Jenna II Floral Embroidered Rancher Hat

LEOPARD

I tend to gravitate toward leopard patterned accessories rather than full outfits. A leopard print dress can be tricky to rock, but I love it when I see it done well.  Leopard is considered a neutral as far as accessories go so it works well in small doses with other prints and patterns. Leopard shoes are a simple way to get out of your pattern comfort zone while looking super stylish.  Not quite loving leopard? Opt for a summer polka dot print instead.

ZARA Leopard Print HeadscarfThis would be so cute tied around a messy bun on the beach or worn as a bandana with a graphic tee.

Tory Burch Miller Flip Flop

Dolce Vita Cato Genuine Calf Hair Slide Sandal

Halogen Square Keeper Calf Hair Belt –  A skinny belt is a very elegant way to bring in a summer print.  I would wrap this around a chambray sundress or loop it into some solid high waisted pants.

Tavik Monohan One-Piece Swimsuit  – I love how understated this leopard print is in this suit, and so sexy!  It’s woven into the texture of the swimsuit which gives it that added pop.

Erickson Set of 5 Sport Ponytail Holders

GINGHAM

If there was ever a time to wear a gingham print, it’s summer!  The gingham trend has been wild over the past few years and I’m a big fan.  I tend to keep my gingham prints on the small side but I love the statement of a larger check.  My tip – keep your hair and accessories simple when rocking a full gingham outfit to keep the attention on your cute gingham pieces.  There are so many cute two-piece sets out there if you like to rock a bare midriff in warm weather.

Plunge One-Piece Swimsuit

Gingham Ruffle Wrap Skirt  –  I absolutely love this wrap skirt!  Pair it with a plain white crew neck tee, a few layered dainty gold necklaces, and open toe heels for a fresh and flirty look.

Lost + Wander Brunch Ruffle Gingham Dress  – A high pony and flats with this gingham dress create a super sweet outfit.

Zara Sequinned Gingham Top

Champion + HVN for Urban Outfitters Gingham Track Short – Road trip anybody?  Love these for a comfy day at home or a day on the road.

Donni Charm Chiquita Scrunchie

STRIPES

The ultimate classic print, the stripe.  This summer I love finding stripe prints that are small in scale and are pastel or grey in tone.  Stripes look good with pretty much anything, but especially with denim and white denim. Fun ways to rock stripes: Find an oversized white striped button up blouse and use it as a swim cover up for a chic pool look.  Another chic way to wear stripes this season is with stripes on stripes. My tip is to mix different scales to make it look great, for example; a small vertical striped vertical t-shirt dress paired with a large stripe long sleeve top wrapped around the waist and sandals.

UO Striped Chambray Jumpsuit  – I would pair this striped jumpsuit with a white tee and comfy sandals for when I’m on the go.

UO The Big Brother Striped Tee  – I love this 90’s-esque striped tee.  Pair with denim shorts or a cute pair of overalls for a youthful look.

Zara Striped Top  – This striped peplum top is too sweet to handle.  I’d pair it with denim shorts or jeans.

Caslon Tie Front Tee

Halogen Farrah Sandal

Tory Burch Gemini Link Coated Canvas Tote

Bunny Seersucker Scrunchie

FRUIT

The sweetest print of all.  The fruit trend is going strong this year and I’m loving the citrus and tropical prints as well as the berries and cherries.  What’s your favorite? My styling tip: Choose a small print if you are hesitant. I love pairing fruit prints with woven bags and clean accessories.

J.Crew Fruit EarringsNormally I’m an understated earrings kind of girl but these are so fun! Wearing them with a high pony and a simple t-shirt dress would be adorable.

Bishop and Young Front Tie Pineapple Top

Herschel Supply Co Novel Canvas Duffle BagPerfect summer vacation carry on or beach bag to fill with towels and keep in the trunk.

Madewell Clover Strawberries Button Front Silk Dress

Lost + Wander Limonada Citrus Dress

Soludos Lemon Espadrille Flat  – The lemon trend is so hot this year!  I would pair these cuties with distressed skinny jeans and a baby doll blouse.
