Second Trimester Nesting Hacks

The second trimester is supposed to be the three out of nine months where you have energy so I’m really banking on that to get all of the things done when it comes to nesting.  Baby number four will be here before we know it and I love to plan and make lists so I decided that it would be fun to make a quick list of four hacks that will help making your nesting a breeze and smooth out a few potential bumps you may run into in the fourth trimester (or postpartum phase).

Don’t forget to ask for help! I might be talking to myself a little bit on this because I am the queen of hating to ask for help but it’s important to keep the stress low and the energy high.  Having a new addition to your family is supposed to be a celebration!  So make sure that your list includes your loved ones and they can participate in the preparations and celebrations with you.

Make Three Important Baskets

I like to think ahead to those first few months after baby is born and what will make my life a little bit easier.  One of those very time-consuming tasks that require a few necessities is a nursing and/or pumping station.  I know that nursing can occur almost anywhere but you find spaces in your home where you’re the most comfortable, this may be the rocker in your nursery or a chair in your living room.  Create a little nursing basket near your favorite nursing or pumping spaces so that you have things you’ll need during nursing and or pumping.

Nursing/Pumping Basket Ideas:

The next basket or organization station I like to create is a diapering one that is outside of our changing table in the nursery.  Sometimes you have to change the baby’s bum and the nursery isn’t convenient so we like to keep a little diapering kit on our main level and in our basement.  Here are some things to include:

  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Diaper Cream
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Diaper Bags for stinky diapers

Ordering this diaper caddy to easily move around the house! Love how it keeps everything organized.

Last, but certainly not least, put together a little care kit for each of your bathrooms for postpartum use.  This is super helpful whether you’ll be delivering vaginally or via c-section because let’s face it, going potty just isn’t fun for a while after.

Skip The Baby Shower and Have a Cleaning Party

If your family and friends want to celebrate the new baby but you feel like you’ve got your baby gear handled, opt for a cleaning party! If you have enough helping hands on a Saturday morning, it should only take 2-3 hours and you’ll feel so much better after!  Have a nice lunch or snack after and enjoy each other’s company.  This gift is seriously priceless.

Here are some tasks your helpers can help you with:

  • Baseboards
  • Windows
  • Blinds
  • Organizing Closets, Drawers, and Cabinets
  • Shampooing Carpets and Rugs
  • Deep Cleaning Bathrooms

Order A Few Necessities With Your Groceries Each Week

This one is an epic hack!  I love to instacart and do grocery delivery or pickup.  Seriously, shopping with the kids is kind of my nightmare haha.  So my tip is to add one or two staples to your grocery order each week that you know you’ll be needing.  This will be so helpful to be all stocked up when baby comes and not even have to think about it!  Here are a few items I’ll be stocking up on:

  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Shampoo/Conditioner
  • Paper Towels
  • Toilet Paper
  • Frozen Meals
  • Batteries
  • Sunscreen
  • Liquid IV
  • Laundry Detergent
  • Fabric Softener
  • Dog Food

Whatever you don’t have room to stock up on or you don’t want it to go bad but you know you’ll need it, just opt for subscribe and save on amazon and it will come to your door automatically AND you’ll save money! Win/win!
