What an amazing year 2017 was! We had SO many big changes this year. Our biggest blessing was definitely welcoming our sweet angel Tatum to our family~ she lights up our world and brings us SO much joy. We also sold our home in Texas and moved away after calling there “home” for three years, & are now in the process of building our new home in Utah! There were millions of amazing moments and memories with our sweet babies, trials and hard times, laughs, hugs, and kisses, and SO much love and good times shared with our families and friends. It was an amazing year and one to cherish and remember, for sure!
How To Set Goals For The New Year
It’s New Years weekend & I am feeling so pumped and excited about 2018! I am the type of person who LOVES getting a fresh start, making goals to work towards, seeing what I accomplished that year, & making note of things that I want to accomplish in the New Year. Sid and I have always done this since we were newly married and I truly think it has helped us to push ourselves/hold us accountable to work towards goals. I have been making mental note of things that I would like to accomplish this year the last few months. I quietly make mental notes and jot down ideas in my notebook, but am going to take the time today to sit down and really get a plan set in motion to get after those goals.
It’s important to actually take the time to sit down and think about our goals in a present & intentional way. Think about goals that are realistic and attainable, but don’t limit yourself… YOU are capable of amazing things! Think about what inspires you, what makes you excited, what do you want to work on this year? Get out a notepad and make some serious goals. THESE are the days & the time is now to create the life you want. I also just ordered this planner (& use these free prints all the time!) & am SO excited about it. I’ve already started filling it with fun events, ideas, etc. It makes me feel a little more organized (okay lets be real, a LOT more organized. I am a mess without my planner!) and excited for all that’s to come in 2018!
Different Types of New Year Goals
1. Spiritual
I am putting this one first, because it is truly the most important to me. Spiritual goals can be different for everyone! They can be centered around finding more time for daily devotionals, to read the scriptures, & to pray. I find when I make the time to do these things, my life is so much happier. Giving myself and my time to my Heavenly Father brings me an immense amount of joy. Finding time to meditate, do positive affirmations (this is huge to me & I practice this with my children), or even serving others more often are great goals (& some of my own, as well!) This year I want to live in an energy of love & to achieve inner piece, regardless of outside circumstances. What are some of your spiritual goals? I love, love, love learning from others!
2. Personal
There are so, so many options for personal goals. There are long term goals and short term goals, but what really matters is thinking about what works + is most important to you. Think about the areas in your life that you’d like to change or improve on, make a list of your life goals & set goals and resolutions that help you work towards achieving those. These personal goals can help in areas of personal development or even professional development.
3. Professional/ Financial
A few tips we have for setting financial goals are:
Be specific
Agree on the goals
Set Realistic Goals
Set a timeline
We obviously are not professionals, but we are proud of where we are today! These steps have helped us to set realistic goals, have dreams to work towards, and this way we can hold each other accountable! This has been key this year for us in saving for our new home. We also have made goals that we are continually working towards (for example, I want to buy an investment property on my own- it’s something I love and am passionate about and I’m hoping to achieve this goal in the next couple of years! & we are always saving for our babies’ futures). As far as professional goals, I have some big ones for my blog this year! I want to post here more often & hopefully try to step out of my shell a little bit more this year 🙂
4. Fitness
Every year I make fitness goals for myself! Fitness & living a healthy lifestyle is such a huge part of who I am and always has been. These goals can be whatever you want! Last year I made a goal to drink more water and now it’s a habit of mine. Do what makes you happy + makes you feel good. Try a new workout. I personally love OrangeTheory.
5. Family Goals
Set goals as a family! We love to write down things we want to work on for the year, places we’d like to travel, goals we want to attain together, service we want to do together, etc. While working on these different goals together, you are able to grow closer as a family! This year we are going to make time for a family night once a week. I will do daily prayers and affirmations with the kids, as well. We are going to make a fun “dream & goal” board with Tru this weekend. We will simply cut images out of magazines or print things off for him to glue onto a mini poster so that he can look at it and set some mini goals, too! 😉
Tips For How To Achieve Your Goals In 2018
I have so many goals that I want to achieve this year! I’m setting some lofty, but exciting goals for this year and I am truly so excited to work towards them all. I am feeling so dang inspired & hope you are too. Don’t just set goals, but work hard to achieve them. Hold yourself accountable! Set deadlines or check-ins for yourself. Share your goals with family members- you’ll feel more motivated after sharing your goals to achieve them. Don’t procrastinate and start taking steps towards your goals today.
This is your year, make it a great one!
Happy New Year, babes! Thank you for all of the continued support this year. I truly appreciate each and every one of you! I would LOVE to hear what you would like to see here on Truly Destiny this year, so please let me know! Feel free to leave a comment here or on instagram, as I will be taking note of everyone’s feedback while planning the next few months of content. XOXO
