My No-Makeup Makeup Look

My No-Makeup Makeup Look

My No-Makeup Makeup Look

Hello summer!  On the (hopefully) tailend of a worldwide pandemic, I don’t know if I’ve ever been more excited for summer to be here!  Growing up in Las Vegas, most of the year felt a lot like summer and the warm, sunny weather made me so so happy.  One of our family favorite summertime activities is swimming and spending time in the pool and hot tub.  On most summer days where I know that we’ll probably be taking a dip, I love to opt for my no-makeup makeup look.  When I say no-makeup makeup look, I mean the products and processes that I use to make myself feel a little more put together and glowy without the typical amount of makeup I may use.  Minimalism is key!

How I Achieve A No-Makeup Makeup Look

Perfect Your Base

I love to focus on the face when I am creating a no-makeup makeup look.  With face makeup, the key is to use way less product than you think you need.  I like to relate it to a manicure.  Using very, very light layers will minimize creases and cakiness.  I start with my favorite primer (use code DTHOMPSY) to create a smooth, hydrate surface and then use this CC cream with a wet beauty sponge to create a light layer of minimal coveraged.  If I have a trouble spot, I will take a little more product and focus on that area in a second layer.  Using a powder that has some sheen or a natural finish to set your product is going to help you stay set throughout the day but not look too overdone.

Bronze In Just The Right Areas

You guys know much I love the Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer, but this really is magic.  It even smells like summer.  I love to use this bronzer with a big fluffy brush to create a seamless, all over bronze.  I’ve seen a makeup artist or two use an “E” motion and I love the natural effect it creates.  If you turn your cheek to the side, you can create an “E” shape with your bronzer, the top of the “E” being your hairline, the middle being your cheek contour, and the bottom being your jawline.

A Blush Hack

Now that we’ve achieved an all-over bronze, minimal look, I like to add a little bit of a glowing blush in a few specific areas.  If you think about where you may get the most sun if you were to leave your face in the sun for too long, you would likely see a little bit of a pink tint over highest points of your face: your upper-forehead and hairline, the apples of your cheeks (a few inches below your eyes), and the bridge of your nose.  So using a super light hand, I use a small-mid size fluffy brush to dust a peachy blush over those areas to create a sun-kissed, glow.

Tame The Brows

I’m a fan of a super natural looking brow lately so on my no-makeup makeup days, I love to just use a brow gel to help those longer brows lay in place just how I want them.  I also tint my own eyebrows here and there just to save time in the morning when getting ready so all that’s really necessary is a little brow gel to seal the deal.

Just A Little Lash

Okay, what you choose to do with your lashes on no-makeup makeup days is totally individual because I know that some of us don’t mind a completely bare set of lashes, maybe a little mascara, or have lash extensions.  I chose to let my eyelash extensions go a year ago and I have loved using this lash serum and this mascara to make them feel and look full and voluminous. For a more authentic no-makeup look, I’d curl your lashes but leave the mascara at home.

Hydrate The Lips

And now for the finishing touch!  For a super clean, natural lip, I love to use my Laneige Lip Mask or a translucent lip balm or gloss just to keep my lips feeling nice and hydrated.

I hope these tips are helpful for you the next time you decide to rock a bare-faced look with a few strategic products.
