My Current Skincare Routine

Hello, beauty queens! I wanted to do a quick write up of my current skincare routine since that is something I get asked about daily. This is just what works for me + what I’ve been doing, so definitely consult with your dermatologist. I’ve found that finding the perfect routine for myself has come with a lot of trial and error over the years, but these are products that I truly love and have seen amazing results with! I am obsessed with skincare and truly believe in investing in good products! My baby sister is a master esthetician, my mom is skincare obsessed, my grandma loves skincare, and I also LOVE skincare so when we all get together, we’re always sharing our favorite products and sharing tips & tricks (I also asked my mama to share a skincare routine for those over 40, coming to the blog soon!)

* Also just a note for discount codes!

My Current Skincare Routine

What Order Do I apply In?

Both my AM + PM skincare routines consist of several steps, but I’ve learned from my esthetician to apply my products from thinnest to thickest consistency.

AM Skincare Routine Order

  1. Wash

  2. Tone

  3. Vitamin C Serum

  4. Moisturize

  5. Eye Care

  6. SPF (alwayssssss!)

Wash

First up, I always wash my face with cool water + my favorite TULA cleanser (use code DTHOMPSY for a discount). Lightly pat dry (I use these towels because they’re soft and don’t tug at my skin).

Tone

I either use this TULA toner or this witch hazel as my toner! I love them both and like to switch products up here and there.

Vitamin C Serum

I use this one and have for years! It’s amazing + one of my must have products. It is pricey, but a product that I have seen great results with. I let this sit and absorb into my skin for about 1 minute before I go to my next step.

Key Benefits:
  • Provides advanced environmental protection from skin-damaging free radicals caused by sun and pollution
  • Improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and loss of firmness
  • Evens and brightens skin tone
  • Once absorbed, this vitamin C serum can remain effective for 72 hours

Moisturize

I have been using Tula’s Day & Night Cream for YEARS and it’s what I use daily in the mornings. It light but super hydrating, doesn’t irritate my skin or clog my pores. I love that it keeps my skin healthy and glowy! *just a reminder my code DTHOMSY is good for 15% off all Tula products! 🙂

Eye Balm

I apply my Tula Rose Glow & Get It eye balm next. I seriously love, love, love this product! It brightens my under eyes + its also hydrating since it contains rose water. * If my eyes are super puffy because #momlife, I love these eye patches! SO good!

Sunscreen

I am only 28, but I have been a diligent sunscreen user since my teens! And I never ever skip it. I use this tinted sunscreen and love it under make-up or alone. It’s light and wears beautifully under make-up! It’s not sticky at all and I actually feel like it adds just a titch of glow. I totally recommend it! I used this sunscreen in my early 20’s/ when we were on a tighter college budget 😉

 PM Skincare Routine

I will admit, my skincare routine at night is a little bit “extra”, but I want to keep my skin young and youthful, so I am all about a good night time routine. My hubby jokes it takes me longer at night applying my skincare than it does for me to get ready for the day, haha (but even he has gotten on a better skincare routine the last couple of years!) Night time is when your skin really repairs and I love to give my skin what it needs (this includes my face, chest, and neck – don’t forget your chest & neck!)

Night Time Skin Care Routine

Remove Makeup

Remove make-up. I use this eye make-up remover from Elemis with a cotton pad to gently remove my mascara/eye make-up. It’s super gentle and works so well. Next, I use this cleansing balm. I am a big lover of double cleansing and have seen incredible changes in my skin since starting & a lot less breakouts. (This one is also a fabulous option!) I use this all over my face and then take a wet wash cloth to remove everything. Then, I use my favorite TULA cleanser to get everything else off! I use these to dry my face. They are soft and gentle!

Tone

Again, I use Tula’s toner or witch hazel (kinda whatever I’m feeling that day!)

Serums

*quick tip- I always “pat” in my serums instead of rubbing them in.

I have recently started using this oil when I need a little extra hydration! It smells like the spa and I wake up so glowy the next morning.

I always use a serum with Hyaluronic Acid. It really plumps up the skin & deeply hydrates. ( I alternate between buying this one and this one)

My esthetician recommended this product after I had Porter.  SkinMedica’s TNS Essential Serum features two active formulas that combine to smooth wrinkles and regenerate skin cells for a more youthful appearance- again, this one is pricey and something I just started using about a year ago but really love it and have seen great results from it.

Retinol

I use this retinol about 2 times a week! (never when I am pregnant or nursing)

Eye Care

I love this Pro-Collagen Eye Revive Mask. It’s a anti-wrinkle multi- use eye mask that brightens, rejuvenates, & hydrates. It is a light gel formula infused with serum. It helps with the appearance of wrinkles, while also targeting puffiness and dark circles. I love how hydrating it is!

Moisturize

Here are the two I love + alternate between.

This Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream firms, hydrates, and soothes. It is more of a gel texture and I absolutely love it! This is a newer product I’ve been using and I’m impressed.

This Skinceuticals Triple Lipid is a favorite of mine the last few years. It is SO moisturizing and works on the improvement in elasticity, moisture levels and radiance, leaving your skin supple, healthy and radiant.

Lips

I always use something suuuuper moisturizing at night on my lips. I really love this Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask or good ol aquaphor! They both leave my lips feeling hydrated and healthy.
