If you’ve had a baby before, you know the absolute ecstasy that is the first shower after giving birth. There is something more refreshing about it than anything else… pretty much ever. Unfortunately, it can be so difficult as a new mama to take time away from your family and new baby but it’s just as important for the baby as it is for you to take really good care of yourself. So let’s talk about showers!
I put together a quick list of easy things that you can do to help make your post-partum (or really any showers) extra pampering and luxurious so that they not only make you feel clean, but recharged and ready for the day or night. Depending on your doctor or doula’s postpartum instructions, you may be required to strictly shower or you can take baths and many of these tips can be applied to baths as well!
How To Take The Perfect Postpartum Shower
A clean shower or bath.
It all starts with a clean shower. If you’re anything like me, bathing in a dirty shower or tub just doesn’t hit the same. Now, that doesn’t mean that YOU clean the shower or bath before bathing. It takes a village to raise a baby and someone in your village has probably offered to help you cook or clean during your new-mama phase so allow them to do it. It’s really okay, they WANT to.
All the good smells.
Emotions are high during the fourth trimester, literally anything can make me laugh, cry, and feel. Something that I know always makes me happy are lovely smelling things. A few ways to stimulate your senses and make you happy if you love good smells…
- Hang dried lavender or eucalyptus from your shower head.
- Use a scented shower bomb or bath bomb (make sure bath bombs are safe to use and doctor approved).
- Light a candle before you go in.
Spa-sounds or your favorite music.
Your baby may love this too if you need to shower with the baby around. Bring a bouncer or rocker into your bathroom and put it within eyesight of your shower or bath and let them bounce or rock. Use a bluetooth speaker to play soothing spa sounds or your favorite playlist.
Keep it cozy.
Make sure the water temperature is to your liking before stepping in and if you have one, a towel warmer is the sweetest luxury post-shower or bath. I love this bucket version on Amazon. And soft, cozy towels are a must!
I hope these easy tips help you achieve a spa-like, rejuvenating bath or shower and that you feel amazing afterwards!
