Easy and Fresh Makeup for Moms

It’s finally summertime!  As a busy mom, summer means more fun, more sun, and much less time spent cooped up indoors.  A typical morning for me consists of getting myself and the kids ready quickly before making breakfast and heading out the door for the day.  That means I don’t usually have much time to spend doing a full beauty routine in the morning. Luckily, I’ve found a few makeup products and tips that give me a fresh summer glow in a minimal amount of time.  You can get this 5-minute makeup look in the car on your way to the park and just add a shimmery shadow and a little mascara for date night. You don’t need to be a makeup artist to master this super simple makeup look, so let’s take a peek inside my summer makeup bag!

Step One: Create An Even Base

During the summer I prefer a more natural foundation and for that I love the iT Cosmetics CC+ Illumination Cream.  I love the sun protection provided in this CC cream (hello SPF 50+) as well as the natural but buildable coverage.  It comes in a range of universal skin tones and is packed with anti-aging ingredients. Basically, I’m obsessed. I apply it using a Sigma Flat Top Kabuki Brush in circular sweeping motions to create an even layer of coverage.

Step Two: Conceal and Perfect

My favorite concealer to use when I have dark circles from a light night of fireworks or barbeques is the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer.  This concealer packs a punch and you only need a tiny amount in order to conceal evidence of even the latest summer nights.  I use a damp Beauty Blender Sponge in a tapping motion to blend this concealer underneath my eyes, on the bridge of my nose, and lightly on my forehead and chin.

Step Three: Keep it Locked

BBQ grease is the only kind of grease I’m okay with during the summer, so to prevent a shiny t-zone I set my foundation and concealer with the bareMinerals barePRO Performance Wear Powder Foundation.  I use a light amount on a fluffy brush and dust it anywhere I don’t want my makeup to budge.  Pro tip: Use this powder on its own for super natural makeup days.

Step Four: Bronze, Bronze, Bronze

Is summer even summer without bronzer?  This step makes all the difference in achieving that sun kissed summer glow.  I love the NYX Matte Bronzer applied with a fluffy brush to my cheeks, my hairline, and lightly along the sides of my nose to create definition and dimension.  Because this bronzer is matte, it works well to contour the face, knocking out contouring and bronzing in one step. I love a good time saver! If you have a few extra minutes, you can add a little blush to the apples of your cheeks over the bronzer for an added glow.

Step Five: Glow Girl

If you’re trying to get that J-Lo glow like I am this summer, a good highlighter is key.  The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in the shade Opal is my go-to for a good glow.  I dust a small amount using a small highlighting brush on the high points of my cheekbones, the bridge and tip of my nose, and lightly on the cupid’s bow my upper lip.  Pro tip: Mist a fine setting spray over your face to amplify that glow. Also, It helps your makeup look last all day long. The best case scenario as a busy mom!

Step Six: Gloss Is A Mom’s Best Friend

Probably my favorite step and honestly all you need if you have no time for the other five steps.  A pretty lip gloss makes all the difference in helping me look more awake and put together. Also, I love the NYX Butter Gloss in the shade Strawberry Parfait. In my opinion, this shade is a pretty nude pink, and looks great on all skin tones. Furthermore, I have one of these glosses in my diaper bag, beach bag, and gym bag all summer long.  Oh yeah, and did I mention these butter glosses smell like cupcakes? So so good.

And that’s it! Seriously, this makeup look can be achieved in five minutes or less and you’ll look fresh and glowy all day long.  Added bonus, these six items are super easy to keep in a small makeup bag to keep with you at the beach or at the park for mid-day touch ups or to add a little color for date night.  What are your busy mom makeup tips?
