I may be on modified bedrest, but you bet I still rock athleisure looks all day long! I’m typically a very active person and I love to exercise, if not to stay physically healthy, to stay mentally clear and calm. Do you feel that way, too? There is something about getting a good sweat session in that clears my mind and makes me feel refreshed and ready to take on whatever comes my way.
It’s been pretty difficult to have to slow down since being put on modified bedrest for the last few weeks. I won’t lie, it’s tough! But I feel extremely blessed to be able to carry this sweet baby and just being able to feel him or her roll around in my belly makes up for any negative thoughts or feelings that come my way about bedrest.
Even after receiving the order to slow down, I’m still sporting maternity workout wear because it’s cute and comfy and makes me feel a little more put together than staying in my pajamas all day. I’m sure it will remain in my wardrobe rotation for a little while post-pregnancy because it is THAT comfy and cute. Rocking a big belly and a few extra pounds, it can be tricky to find workout looks that make you feel amazing but I have found a few brands that never let me down in their comfort or fashion.
Best Maternity Workout Clothes
Zella
Zella makes my favorite leggings in general (maternity or non), and they don’t have a big maternity workout line yet, but their Mamasana leggings are definitely my favorites and black maternity leggings are absolute must haves. Their yoga pant style leggings have comfy and supportive belly support and are super soft and long lasting. You can definitely keep these for multiple pregnancies and all stages of growing bellies. So I highly recommend these to all my soon-to-be mama friends!
Beyond Yoga
Okay ladies, if you’re ready for a bit of a splurge, Beyond Yoga has the absolute cutest maternity activewear line right now. I love the cute details in their leggings selection and how versatile each can be in your mama wardrobe. Layering with a tank top and sweater or cardigan over top is my go-to for temperature control in case I get too hot or too cold and their white Grow and Glow maternity tank is to die for. Their maternity sports bras have quick drying and super supportive material to make sure you’re nice and comfy for your morning run or prenatal yoga session.
Old Navy
Budget friendly and super cute? YES. Stock up on their cute leggings, workout tanks, and half-zips or jackets and rock a cute new look every day of the week. I love the cute shades of their leggings (hello jade green!) and you can’t beat the sales they offer every week.
GAP
Speaking of Old Navy, their sister store GAP has equally adorable maternity activewear with lots of budget friendly options. The GapFit Maternity line is full of moisture wicking fabrics that will keep you feeling supported for your entire workout. I like to buy their nursing sports bras while I’m pregnant and just size up so that I can use them for maternity and nursing as well.
Ingrid & Isabel
Ingrid & Isabel, home of the Bellaband, has such a cute maternity workout wear line and I want all of it! Maybe next time, haha! The Active Side Zip Maternity Jacket grows with your belly so that you can wear it through all trimesters en route to your workout. And how gorgeous are the Macrame Maternity Workout leggings? The full panel that folds down is genius.
My top tips for shopping for maternity activewear:
- Stick to the basics. I know that black and white and plain all over can seem boring. But trust me, you are going to live in those pieces the most. I’d recommend grabbing at least:
- 2 pairs black full panel leggings
- 1 of each: black, white, and grey workout tanks with breathable material
- 2 maternity/nursing sports bras (choose your support level: low, medium, high impact)
- 1 black half or full zip maternity active jacket
These pieces will be interchangeable with anything and everything. I love to pair my black leggings with longer tunics and boots, crop top graphic tees and casual sneakers, or with long cardigans and cute sandals.
- Utilize your pre-pregnancy tees and tanks. I love to tie my loose workout tanks in a knot under or over my belly for an added touch and repurpose them. These Amazon tanks are so inexpensive and perfect for the job.
- Check out the fabrics. If you’re purchasing a few key pieces, you’ll want to make sure the material is high quality and moisture wicking. Warm, moist areas will produce bacteria so to avoid any bad smells or infection, you want to make sure you’re nice and cool and dry.
- Keep nursing in mind. Most mama belly’s don’t disappear immediately after giving birth so you may be gravitating toward your maternity wear for a few weeks post-partum and there is no shame in that, mama! I like to look for pieces that will transition easily so I can get the most use out of them. Especially in workout tanks and sports bras. Do yourself a favor and find options that have easy access and size up to suit your new bra size.
