I can’t believe almost 4 years ago I got to hold my sweet baby boy for the first time. That memory will forever give me butterflies and chills. And the same goes for the day I had Tatum. There’s nothing quite like it. There are no classes or books that can truly prepare you for all that motherhood brings. Trust me, I took every class + read every book. At the young age of 23, I had no idea what to expect (we had been married for 3 years at that point, but Truman was definitely a (the BEST) surprise. I was newly graduated from college and we had just moved across the country, just Sid & I, for a new job.

I think that’s what helped mold me into the mother I am today. I had no one to help me, no one to depend on, and no one to give me their opinions.

It was just me and that sweet, sweet new little baby boy learning and teaching each other. Ahhhh… I seriously tear up thinking about that special time in our lives. He blessed my life in every way and showed me what true, unconditional love is. What a miracle and special blessing life is! To look at both of my children and think we made them..we made life!!

Every night when I put them to bed, I kiss their sweet little fingers and toes & am overcome with gratitude. Looking at these photos, I can’t believe how big Truman and Tatum look! Time is precious and goes by too, too quickly. I am learning to live in the moment more. Plus enjoy the little things with them. I’m a planner by nature. I like to keep our days busy and planned, but have found my heart happier and more content with just going with the flow a little bit more. I want to remember these days. They are truly the best days of my life.

5 Things Motherhood Has Taught Me

1. Motherhood is truly humbling.

Whether you’re a parent or not, I’m sure you’ve probably thought “my child will never do that”. Or “when I am a mom, I will parent such and such way”. Being a mother, or a parent, is amazing and complicated. I always try my best to stay away from judging other’s parenting style. I also try to show myself more compassion.

2. Motherhood is inspiring.

Both times I have been pregnant, I have felt so connected and inspired by other women, but especially by my own mom. You get to really experience that true mothers love and it’s amazing. I now can see the depth of my mother’s love and appreciate every little thing about her. It’s true when they say nothing compares to the love of a mother. It runs deep and is so, so pure. Motherhood inspires me. It fills me with joy, love, and even power.

3. Every child is different.

There is no perfect way to parent. So now that I have two children, I can see how true that is. I have to parent them in different ways and I love that my relationship with each of them is different, but yet equally as strong. I love helping to shape them into their own special souls. Also I know that it’s my job to help them grow into the person they’re meant to be by giving them all the support and love that I can. So it’s definitely a special and important job.

4. Children learn from example. 

Children learn and catch onto everything you do. They watch and learn and mold into the environment around them. They watch how you treat others and yourself. I want my children to always show love and kindness, so it’s our job as parents to lead by example and remember we always have little eyes watching us.

5. Having children young does not have to impact your career goals.

For me, they just shifted a little and if anything having my son lit my fire and motivated both my husband and I. I had to get creative. We started side businesses (I don’t share about those on here) and I also started this blog, which has become a huge blessing to our family and to me. I am not sure I found my full identity prior to having my children, but in the last few years, I have truly grown into and found myself. There is nothing more satisfying than being a working mom with a degree that took hard work and sacrifice, while still having the ability and the time to give your children all the nurture and love they need.

What have you learned from motherhood?

I always love learning and sharing support & love with other women. Thankful for this space where I get to connect with other mothers and I am thankful for you all and the support you have shown me.
